Aim:
The course covers fundamentals in data communication using TCP/IP. Its aim is to provide - Overview on system architecture in data communication using layered approach - Knowledge on existing networks, protocols and implementations - A detailed treatment of the TCP/IP communication protocol - Practical experiences with TCP/IP

Prerequisites:
TNK007 Telecommunication

Course organization:
The course consists of lectures, group seminars and laboratory work.

Course content:
Overview on data communication. Protocols and communication architecture. Protocol communication. Local area networks and its protocols. TCP/IP layering and standards. Link layer: Ethernet and PPP. Internetworking: devices and functionality at different layers. Addressing in IP and subnetworking. IP-routing and routing protocols (IGP and EGP). ARP and RARP. ICMP. The domain name system (DNS). Broadcasting and multicasting. Transport layer protocols: UDP and TCP. TCP connection establishment and termination. TCP data transfer. TCP performance. Network management and SNMP. FTP and HTTP procedures. Other application protocols. IPv6.
