Aim:
The aim of the course is to give the participants theoretical knowledge and practical experience within digital communications. The course has the aim to provide - Basic principles in digital communications - Theoretical knowledge about digital data transmission - Practical experience on digital communication: performances and limitations - Develop insight in design and analysis of modern digital communication systems

TNK007 Telecommunication

Course organization:
The course consists of lectures, group lessons and laboratory work.

Course content:
Elements of a digital communication system. Channels and channel characteristics. Mathematical models. Orthogonal function theory. Channel capacity. Signal detection and receiver types. Sampling process. PCM, DPCM, ADPCM, delta-modulation. Baseband coding and its performances. Intersymbol interference. Nyquist criterion. Eye pattern. Modulation techniques: ASK, FSK, PSK, QPSK, MSK, M-ary modulation, QAM. Bandwidth efficiency. Error-control coding. Block coding (linear and cyclic codes) and convolutional coding. Trellis coded modulation. Spread-spectrum modulation. Case study on communication systems: telephone systems and ISDN.
