TFTB04 Surface Science, 6 ECTS-points
/Ytvetenskap/

Advancement level:
C

Aim:
The course is intended to give theoretical and practical knowledge about molecular systems, in particular, thin organic and biological on solid supports. The theoretical part of the course deals with methods used to descibe adsorption phenomena from complex fluids onto solid surfaces. An introduction to modern surface science apparatuses and techniques will also be given, for example, infrared- and photoelectron spectroscopy. The student will also learn to use advanced equipment during practical exercices.

Prerequisites:
Physical Chemistry, Molecular Physics, and Chemical Surface Physics

Supplementary courses:
Biomaterials, Microsystems

Course organization:
Lectures and practical exercices

Course content:
Adsorption dynamics, adsorption from complex fluids, protein adsorption, self-assembly, surface modification. Surface analys: Infrared and Raman spectroscopy, photoelectron spectroscopy, electroanalysis, surface energy measurements, ellipsometry. Mini project on a specific theme, which will change from year to year.
