TFFY71 High Speed Electronics, 4,5 ECTS-points
/Höghastighetselektronik/

Advancement level:
C

Aim:
To give basic knowledge about high speed electronic devices, interconnections and other speed limiting factors. To give understanding and skills concerning high speed circuit design. To give knowledge about applications of high speed electronics in communications (e.g. RF-techniques and electronic interfaces to optical links).

Prerequisites:
TFFY 34 Semiconductor technology D,Y and TSTE 15/83 Analog circuits.

Course organization:
Lectures, exercises and laboratory work.

Course content:
Basic device physics (MOS-, bipolar- and field effect transistors, parasitic in devices and integrated circuits, modeling of active devices). Basic properties of interconnections (models of interconnections, RC-models, transmission lines, cross talk). Some passive devices (inductors, capacitors, connectors). Matching technique (S-parameters, Smith chart, Lumped match, distributed match). High speed analog circuit technique (amplifiers, output stages, tuned amplifiers, oscillators, mixers, impedance and noise matching). Packaging. Examples of applications in radio. Examples of applications in digital communications.
