Aim: Buyers as well as producers of services in transports and logistics are part of a transport system. An important part in the course is to understand the interrelation and co-operation between buyers and producers. The transport system is also affected by the government. The course will give basic knowledge about transport systems och information about recent developments. Another important part in the course is the use of computerized tools for analysis and design of transport systems.Prerequisites: TETS 01 or TETS 15 Basic Logistics M, or TETS 07 Basic Logistics ICourse organization: Lectures, laborations, factory visit Course content: The priority in the course is on: 1. Producers of services in transport and logistics. 2. Buying organizations´ needs and choices of services in transport and logistics. 3. The role of government concerning transports and infrastructure. Knowledge of production of services in transport and logistics concerns: - Models and methods to describe and analyse design and management of transport systems, i.e. choice of distribution structure/terminal structure, different kinds of services, and how to manage and control transport systems by information technology and information systems. - The different conditions and acting of producers depending on transport modes. Knowledge of buying organisations´ needs and choices of services in transport and logistics concerns: - Producers and distributors of goods and their needs of services in terms of scope, structure and management, i.e. the demands on the physical flow of goods and on the information flow. - The different conditions of buyers and choices of transport modes. The role of the government concerns: - Basic knowledge of the relationship between transport of goods and national finances. - Transport politics and the importance of transports concerning costs of infrastructure and the environment.
