NMXD20 Final Thesis, 30 ECTS-points
/EXAMENSARBETE/

Advancement level:
D

Aim:
The aim is to obtain more profound knowledge of mathematics and its application and to give experience of independent work in mathematics. Another aim is to develop the skill to present ones knowlegde and results in writing.

Prerequisites:
In order to be allowed to begin the final thesis, the student must have passed courses of at least 110 points, and at least 75 of those points must be in courses in mathematics. In particular the following courses (or equivalent ones) must have been passed: Foundation course in Mathematics, 5 points (NMAA10); Algebra, 5 points (NMAA11); Linear algebra, 5 points (NMAA12); Mathematical analysis I and II, 20 points (NMAA13 and NMAB13); Linear analysis, 5 points (NMAC07); Principles of Mathematical Analysis, 5 points (NMA***) and totally 20 points in courses on level B in mathematical statistics, optimization or numerical analysis. In addition to these requirements totally 10 points in courses on level C/D in mathematics, mathematical statistics, optimization or numerical analysis must have been passed. Deeper studies in addition to the requirements above may be demanded depending on the specialisation of the thesis.

Course organization:
The course consists of independent work. For every student a supervisor and an examiner is appointed. The examiner must be a teacher at the Department of Mathematics. A written plan of the work has to be made, and it has to be approved by the examiner. The thesis is examined by a written report and orally at a seminar.

Course content:
The content is defined individually for every student in consultation with the supervisor and the examiner.

Course literature:
The literature is defined individually.

Assessment:
EXARWritten and oral presantation
