Aim:
The aim of the course is to give the students a basic knowledge in classical thermodynamics and statistical mechanics, conceptions also used in Quantum Physics, Solid State Physics and Optoelectronics.

Prerequisites:
Attented NFYA31 Mechanics, NFYA32 Electromagnetic Fields and NFYA33 Electromagnetism and Waves.

Course organization:
Lessons, Physical seminars (see NFYA46) and laboratory work.

Course content:
Thermodynamical system, state variables. The ideal gas equation and Van der Waals equation. Irreversible respective reversible process. The laws of thermodynamics. Heat and performance, internal energy and heat capacity, phase changes. Entropy, Chemical potential, entalpy, Gibbs and Helmholtz energies, Maxwells equations. Thermodynamical applications on simple systems. Statistical mechanics. Ensemble, partition function. Bolzmanfactor. Maxwell-Bolzmann. Bose-Einstein respective Fermi-Dirac statistics with applications.
