Aim:
To give theoretical knowledges in calculus of one variable. After the course the student must be able to
  • cite and use the definitions and theorems of limit, continuity and derivatives.
  • prove central theorems in these subjects.


Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Courses in Calculus in one variable.

Theory of Calculus, second course

Organisation:
Seminars, including studentpresentations.

Course contents:
Limits: definitions and theorems. Continuity. The supremum axiom for the real numbers, the Bolzano-Weierstrass theorem, theorems of intermediate and maximum and minimum values. Uniform continuity. Derivatives: definition and theorems. Rolle's theorem and the mean value theorem.
