Aim:
The student should be able to describe the requirements that different communication situations set, increase the skill in verbal and written communication and to illustrate some language theoretical questions. After the course, the student should be able to:
  • have knowledge about scientific communication processes and to understand how information resources are organized.
  • use relevant tools for information retrieval and to critical scrutinize the result
  • communicate according to given conditions
  • structure and present information
  • act as opponent on other students' texts and verbal presentations
  • describe basic ethical theories, principles and concepts.
  • explain the importance of professional responsibility.
  • use basic ethical theories, principles and concepts to analyze ethical problems in natural sciences
As part of this the student has to know how to
  • apply various aspects of linguistic theory on the student�?Ts own communication
  • argue both in oral and written form due to given conditions
  • present information both in oral and written form
  • analyse and evaluate both oral and written communication
  • discuss, on the basis of ethical theory, ethical implications of specific cases in natural sciences


Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
University studies corresponding to 60 hp

Organisation:
The course consists of lectures and seminars. The course runs over the entire autmn semester.

For passing grade active presence is required in all examining seminars. Absence is compensated with a written analysis of the texts that have been treated. Grades are given as �?~Pass�?T or �?~Fail�?T.
