Valid for year : 2016

TMMV07 Computational Fluid Mechanics, advanced course, 6 ECTS credits.
/Beräkningsmetoder i strömningslära fk/

For:   AER   EM   M   MEC   MMAT

Prel. scheduled hours: 60
Rec. self-study hours: 100

  Area of Education: Technology

Main field of studies: Mechanical Engineering

  Advancement level (G1, G2, A): A

Aim:
To give advanced knowledge about how to simulate and analyze fluid dynamical problems. After the course the student should be able to
  • Create simulation models of flow problems. Describe how the real case was simplified, and which consequences this implied.
  • Apply the finite volume method to discretize the governing equations.
  • Implement solvers (computer programs) for numerical simulation of two-dimensional flow problems.
  • Implement different numerical algorithms.
  • Analyse, assess, and evaluate simulation result.
  • Use and apply commercial software to study flow problems.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
CFD basic course, numerical methods, algebra, calculus, heat transfer (recommended). Matlab skills

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
Lectures and computer sessions. The course consists of a large amount of computer work

Course contents:
Governing equations and discretization, Navier-Stokes equations in two and three dimensions, turbulence and turbulence modelling, implementation of flow solvers in two dimensions, use of commercial CFD-software.

Course literature:
H.K. Versteeg, W. Malalasekera, ?oAn Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics ?" the Finite Volume Method?, second ed., Pearson Prentice Hall, 2007.

Examination:
