Aim:
The overall aim of the course is that students will acquire knowledge about environmental and energy policies for e.g. resource efficiency, improved energy efficiency and increased shares of renewables, and based on this knowledge obtain skills to critically analyze and evaluate such policy instruments. To meet the objective, the student is expected to obtain an understanding of the underlying principles of how a country in a market economy takes decisions about environmental and energy policies, identify the existing mix of such policies, which today is in operation within the EU and in Sweden. Further the student should be able to explain how such policies mutually influence each other, and how environmental and energy policy decisions at national and EU level are taken. After the course the student is able to:
�?� describe and reflect on how decisions are made about environmental and energy policies
�?� describe the function of the existing environmental and energy and policies
�?� analyze and evaluate such policies
�?� critically examine and evaluate scientific publications concerning relevant policies
�?� communicate the results of their learning in the course areas, both orally and in written form

Organisation:
The course consists of lectures, seminars, work in groups and individually, and reading of literature. Participation in seminars, exams, and assignments of the course project are mandatory.
|
|
Course contents:
During the course, students will, in different ways, practice their ability to critically examine and evaluate existing environmental and energy policies. Different parts of the scientific environmental and energy policy discourse are presented. Participants read research reports, books and scientific papers, etc., and examines them critically. Participants will also be evaluating existing environmental and energy policies and write an essay in the subject of policy instruments in the field of environment and energy.
