TMMI13 Hydraulics and Pneumatics, 6 ECTS credits.
/Hydraulik och pneumatik/

For:   MI

Prel. scheduled hours: 66
Rec. self-study hours: 94

  Area of Education: Technology

Main field of studies: Mechanical Engineering

  Advancement level (G1, G2, A): G2

Aim:
The object of this course is to give knowledge about components and systems for fluid transfer of energy and control principles for fluid power systems. After the course, student should:
  • Be able to analyse fluid power systems with respect to performance, power consumption and controllability.
  • Be able to apply static calculations of fluid power components and systems.
  • Have knowledge about component functions and component characteristics in the field of fluid power.
  • Have knowledge of measurements on components and systems.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Mathematics and Applied Mechanics.

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Supplementary courses:
Industrial Energy System, Calculation Methods in Heat Transfer

Organisation:
The teaching consists of lectures, lessons and laboratory exercises.
The course runs over the entire autumn semester.

Course contents:
  • Energy transmission based on hydraulics and pneumatics. Basic fluid dynamics. Component knowledge with respect to functionality and design of pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, accumulators, filters and line components. Characteristics of fluids. System design for different hydraulic and pneumatic circuits. Calculation methods for components and systems.
  • Basic system principles for control of position, velocity/speed, force/torque and power. Principles for load sensing hydraulic systems and hydrostatic transmissions. Characteristics of proportional- and servo-valves. Automatic sequence control. Measurement methods in hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
