Aim:
Students develops advanced knowledge, skills and attitudes in and about design, based on the needs of design in service organisations. After finishing the course the student will be able to:
- explain and perform contextually driven studies of value and value creation
- engage actors of a value network
- perform och explain the use of visualizations with different purposes in the design process
- utilize and motivate choices of formal and semi-formal modelling tools and techniques for services
- design and explain the development and use of static and dynamic service prototypes, and define service simulations
Through the course the student will also develop the ability and understanding of working with design critique, design history and responsible design.

Organisation:
The course is organized around the studio, where design engagement is the driver for learning. This is complemented by lectures, literature seminars, study circles, peer-learning and workshops.
The course runs over the entire spring semester.

Course contents:
Design research methods, synchron and diachron design techniques, static and dynamic prototyping, facilitation work, modelling in service development, social innovation, deisng critique, design history, responsible design and ethics, design judgment.

Design process, product and analysis are considered in the examination. Conscious and well-motivated assessments, choices and syntheses of methods, problems, and solutions are rewarded. Distinction is evaluated in terms of analytical and creative excellence. |
