Aim:
Students should achieve at least level A1 according to the Common European Framework for Languages which means that the students should be able to
  • understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type
  • introduce him/herself and others and ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has.
  • interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help


Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
The course is intended for exchange and programme students with no prior knowledge of Swedish.

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
Tuition comprises whole and group teaching as well as pronunciation and aural comprehension training.
Attendance is compulsory. Homework and independent study are a necessary complement to the course.
The course runs over the entire semester.


Course contents:
Pronunciation, Oral Exercises and Aural Comprehension. The course comprises tasks and exercises with the emphasis on being able to ask questions, and introduce, sustain and finish off a conversation.

Reading Texts
Intensive training of reading skills based on short texts connected with Swedish society and cultural life.

Grammar and Training in Written Swedish
Students study basic Swedish morphology and syntax and do short written assignments and exercises.
