Aim:
The purpose of the course is to provide knowledge about systems and system related approaches. After completing the course the student should be able to:
- understand the importance of the concept of energy system,
- understand the basics of a system-based approach.
- show knowledge of the factors controlling the energy system's direction.
- show knowledge of renewable energy resources
â?¢ Describe the system conceptual approaches to energy supply technologies and its impact on the climate with focus on renewable energy technologies
- describe the system conceptual approaches to energy user sector.
- arguing future energy system out of a system-based approach.
- using scientific articles as reference materials.

The course is given in the form of lectures, seminars computer lab and company visit.

Course contents:
The course consists of six modules:
- Background to the analysis of energy systems, tools to analyze energy systems and economic tools for evaluating energy systems.
- Energy Supply Systems for electricity, heat and cooling production / distribution: district heating and cooling systems, solar photovoltaic systems and solar thermal applications. It also includes different types of renewable energy, such as wind, hydro and geothermal energy.
- System perspective and system boundaries and its
importance for climate. The principle of environmental valuation of electricity and its importance to the selection of various heating options.
- Energy system in the user sector. Energy system in the building, industry and transport sector with focus on industrial and building sectors' energy system.
- Computer lab. Photovoltaic systems and solar thermal applications.
- Study visit to absorption cooling plant and photovoltaic systems.
