Valid for year : 2005

TSBB04 Computer Vision, 5 ECTS credits.
/Datorseende/

For:   D   I   Ii   IT   Y

Prel. scheduled hours: 50
Rec. self-study hours: 90

  Area of Education: Technology

Subject area: Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering

  Advancement level (A-D): D

Aim:
The course provides background and knowledge on problems and methods in computer vision and image processing. The emphasis is on representation and processing of multidimensional data. The purpose of the processing is often to provide information for control of systems or manufacturing flow. The course will also give some insights into the current research of the area.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
TSBB65 Images and graphics TSBB35 Multidimensional signal analysis

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Supplementary courses:
TSBB51 Images and graphics, project course TSBB53 Images and graphics, project course, CDIO.

Organisation:
The course starts with a number of lectures where relevant concept and methds are presented. The students then form smaller groups which each carries out two smaller and relatively practical projects that will demonstrate a couple of methods described in the lectures. Each project is concluded with an examination which can give grade 3 for the course. For those students which want to go deeper into methods and theory, the course is concluded with more theoretical projects which are carried out individually and presented in terms of a written report for grade 4. Alternatively, for grade 5, an individual project is carried out based on reading a scrientific publication, followed by method implementation and oral presentation of results. All projects which are carried out within the stipulated time period of the course are provided supervision. Projects which are being done outside this time period can only be provided a limited amount of supervision.

Course contents:
Signal models, local features, representation of local features, local estimation of features. Local orientation, phase and frequency. Hierarchical processing. Vector and tensor based representations of orientation. Projective geometry. Applications.

Course literature:
To be determined.

Examination:
Project
3,5 p

Participation in 2 projects and participation in the examination of each of the 2 projects, which pass after an oral examination, gives grade 3. In addition to this, participation in an individual project which goes deeper into the theory of a method gives, if the written report is passed , grade 4. Alternatively, participation in an idividual project which is based on reading a scientific publication, implementation of a method, and an oral presentation of all this, gives grade 5, if passed.
