Aim:
The course gives basic knowledge about principles, methods and tools for the design and development of advanced communication system for supporting applications such those for geographic information processing. These include basic techniques used in mobile networks as well as an understanding of the mechanisms used within mobile communication. The course also gives an overview of existing mobile networks such as cellular and ad-hoc, and presents trends in mobile computing such as home area networks and personal communication. Methods used within transmission technologies such as channel modelling and information compression, as well as fundaments of geographic information systems such as collection and analysis of geographic data are presented.
The course offers the possibility of personal development by employing project work. Thus, the students gain and enhance their experience with teamwork, develop their analysing, research and communication skills (oral and written) and get familiar with the industry way of solving practical problems.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Larger project course such as TDDB34 Object-oriented development of systems or TDDB61 Software Engineering Project from a wide perspective or TTIT50 Projekttermin. Basic knowledge about computer networks and telecommunication are an advantage.
Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.
