Aim:
The course should give an introduction to technical energy systems, as well as practical example within national, regional and industrial energy systems, and buildings as energy systems. After finishing the course the students should know
  • Be able to describe the Swedish energy system briefly
  • Discuss advantages and disadvantages of different energy production methods depending on the boundaries for the energy system
  • Be able to divide industrial processes into unit processes
  • Understand and analyse duration graphs
  • Describe possible energy efficent measures in buildings and how they affect each other


Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Mathematics D, Physics A or similar and 60 ECTS credits engineering studies

Organisation:
Distance course with IT-based loectures

Course contents:
Energy supply, distribution and use. Fundamental concepts and definitions. Fossil fuels and renewables from and energy system point of view. Thermal power and combined heat and power (CHP). Duration. European electricity network. District heating networks. Energy use in industries, and buildings Energy surveys. Energy efficiency measures, fuel change and load management. Resource minimization by using international externalities.
