Aim:
The course is a continuation of Organic Chemistry 3 and has the intention to give the student a profound knowledge in molecular structure, chemical bonding, quantum chemistry etc. This knowledge is applied in chemical reaction mechanisms and in spectroscopic methods.
Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Attended Physical Chemistry A and B (NKEB24 and NKEB41), Organic Chemistry 3 (NKEC53).
Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Supplementary courses:
NKED73 Organic Synthesis
Organisation:
The theory is taught in lectures, seminaries, lessons and laboratory work.
Course contents:
Detailed survey on some central organic reaction mechanisms, giving knowledge on the effect of structure and reaction media on reactivity. Methods to study chemical reaction mechanisms. Symmetry-controlled reactions and stereo chemistry. The Hammett-equation. Two-dimensional NMR-methods.
