Aim:
The course shall give knowledge in the design of digital integrated circuits. The student will learn methods and techniques for implementation and verification, and gain insight into System-on-Chip possibilities and limitations.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
TSEA03/TSEA04 Switching Theory and Logical Design.

Organisation:
The course consists of 24 hours of lectures, 24 hours of exercises and 12 hours of laboratory work.
|
|
Course contents:
Review of CMOS processes and semiconductor technology. Electrical and geometrical properties of the MOSFET. Modeling of wires and interconnect. Design of basic logic circuits, such as static and dynamic gates, latches and flip-flops. Digital circuit timing and clocking. Estimation of performance and power dissipation. Logic and arithmetic blocks, datapaths, control units and memories. I/O and chip packaging. Layout strategies and CAD tools. Overview of ASIC design flow from logic synthesis to layout. Overview of design verification including estimation, simulation and testing.
