Aim:
This course shall afford an outline of problems and methods within the theory of science and orientate important science- and techno-philosophical schooling. The aim is to enhance an understanding of the natural sciences and technical research.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Requisite general qualifications for university.

Lectures Seminars

Course contents:
Science history orientation. Methodological directions such as rationalism, empiricism, positivism and falsification. Central scientific conceptions. Problems concerning observation, induction, scientific explanations and rationality. Technical philosophical issues regarding the aims and methods of technical research. The connection to basic research. Technology's rationa-lity; technological autonomy versus pluralism and usage control.
