Aim:
The study of various models of communication: to provide a deeper understanding of language and communication building on previous courses (see prerequisites), to study similarities and differences between various theories in cognitive science (psychology, linguistics, artificial intelligence) in this area.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
TDDA 94 Introduction to Linguistics, TDDA 17 Cognitive Psychology TDDA 58 Artificial Intelligence C.

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
Theoretical issues are presented in the lectures. The laboratory course comprises a study in communication.

Course contents:
Models of human communication. Text- and dialogue structure from various cognitive science perspectives. Similarities and differences between human-human communication and human-computer communication. Philosophical considerations underlying various research traditions in the area.
