NKEC43 Equilibrium Chemistry, 7,5 ECTS credits.
/JÀmviktskemi/

For:   BKM   FRIST   Kem

Prel. scheduled hours: 80
Rec. self-study hours: 120

  Area of Education: Science

Subject area: Chemistry

  Advancement level (A-D): C

Aim:
The aim of the course is to give a deeper understanding of the equilibrium state in chemistry. Important part of the course is the use of computers in solving various equilibrium problems. The course also discusses how errors in input data should be handled quantitatively. In the second part of the course, a project work will be carried out and presented both orally and in writing at a seminar. At the written examination, computers will be used by the students.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Inorganic Chemistry (NKEB23), Physical Chemistry (NKEB24 and 41), Mathematics B (NMAA34), or correspondingly.

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
The course consists of lectures, lessons and laboratory work.

Course contents:
Basic error analysis and the method of least-squares. General theory for chemical equilibrium, i.e. for redox reactions, acids and bases, complexes etc. Introducing the Matlab program.
