Aim:
  • to improve the studentâ?Ts skills in communicating science. In particular, to improve the ability to summarise, to present, and to discuss scientific research in different ways. To this end, the students will learn about oral presentations, scientific writing, poster presentations, and webpage making.


Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
To be enrolled in a program for which this course is offered, and to be admitted to perform a Masterâ?Ts thesis in the field of biology.

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
The course consists of lectures and seminars, in addition to self-study.

Course contents:
Lectures about scientific publishing, about how to review a written scientific text and how to provide efficient critique.
Discussions about oral presentation techniques.
Peer-review of two Masterâ?Ts theses of fellow students.
Writing of a â?oreflection document".
Seminars about how to present scientific research as a poster and as a webpage.
A final seminar where the students present their Masterâ?Ts thesis projects as oral presentations, as posters, and as a webpage.
