Aim:
This course is an orientation about methods for telecommunication. After this course, you should have a good overview of methods used in modern telecommunication systems. You should also have an ability to perform rudimental analysis of performance of subsystems using some of those methods.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Calculus, linear algebra, probability theory.
Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.
Organisation:
Teaching is given as lectures and problem classes.
Course contents:
Linear systems: time-continuous systems (e.g. filters). Transmission media: Wirebound and wireless channels, possibilities and limitations.
Digital modulation: detection, signal constellations (e.g. FSK, PSK, QAM), error probabilities. Modem standards. Multi-user systems: TDMA, FDMA, CDMA. Channel coding: linear codes, Hamming codes, error probabilities. Brief description of other methods.
