TNCG03 Real Time Rendering, 7,5 ECTS credits.
/Real Time Rendering/

For:   ACG

Prel. scheduled hours: 20
Rec. self-study hours: 180

  Area of Education: Technology

Subject area: Media Engineering, Computer Engineering

  Advancement level (A-D): D

Aim:
To provide an understanding of the goals and requirements of real-time computer graphics rendering and of the wide variety of methods used to reach the goal of real-time image generation.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
TNCG01 Introduction to Computer Graphics Programming or TNM068 Computer graphics or TNM077 3D Computer Graphics and Animation

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
The course is strongly oriented towards self-study with a significant amount of distributed literature and only a small number of introductory lectures. The examination is primarily by extensive lab work and supplemented by an essay or project work suggested by the student.

Course contents:
The course covers a diverse range of different important techniques used in the real-time rendering of computer graphics images. The approaches covered include high performance techniques for mobile applications using lightweight graphics processors, multiprocess and multiprocessor methods for image generation, graphics hardware approaches using 'shader' programming methods and advanced lighting models for real-time realism in rendered scenes.
