| Aim: To give an understanding of the possibilities and limitations of mathematical modelling as a method for solving real-world problems. By discussing mathematical ideas and different ways of attacking a problem, and by writing a report, the student is trained in both oral and written communication. The work is done in a group and follows a project plan which is prepared with the help of a project management model, LIPS, specially designed for the Y programme. Thus the student is trained in project management and gets experience in working in a group. |

| Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered) The compulsory mathematics courses of the Y programme. Within the course different projects are offered so additional prerequisities may be required depending on which project is chosen. Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding. |

| Organisation: One lecture to present the projects and possibly some basic theory. Project work in consultation with the supervisor. |
