Aim:
To extend and enhance the analysis taught in the basic calculus courses as a preparation for more advanced studies in mathematics and applied subjects.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
A basic course in analysis.

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
The course is held in seminar form with student participation as an essential aspect.

Course contents:
The main topic is metric spaces, particularly compact and complete spaces, and the analysis of continuous mappings between such spaces as well as convergence of functional sequences and series. In particular, we obtain the principal theorems for continuous real-valued functions on The extension of the concept of integral to the Riemann-Stieltjes integral and the elements of measure theory and Lebesgue integration theory are other topics covered.
