Valid for year : 2017

TMMV56 Aerodynamics, continues course, 6 ECTS credits.
/Aerodynamik fk/

For:   AER   M   MEC

Prel. scheduled hours: 44
Rec. self-study hours: 116

  Area of Education: Technology

Main field of studies: Mechanical Engineering

  Advancement level (G1, G2, A): A

Aim:
The aim is to provide skills so that the student can use advanced tools to conduct aerodynamic calculations aiming to assess and optimize performance. This means identification of the problem and a suitable approach to model the flow, and to analyze, assess, and evaluate the results.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Aerodynamics basic course, Computational fluid dynamics

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Supplementary courses:
Computational fluid dynamics advanced course, Aircraft aerodynamics project course

Organisation:
Lectures, seminars, computer sessions, and laboratory exercise.

Course contents:
  • Repetition of basic aerodynamic terminology and fundamental CFD.
  • Application of different modelling concepts: viscous and inviscid, compressible and incompressible, laminar and turbulent.
  • Compressible effects, like shock waves, and how to handle these.
  • Optimization methods.

Course literature:
Material from previous courses in aerodynamics and CFD. Journal papers

Examination:
Assignments
Laboratory work
