Aim:
The course shall give the student chemical understanding for the reasons and the consequences of different chemical pollutants in environmental areas as the biosphere, the hydrosphere and the atmosphere. Further to give explanations for acid rain, atmospheric changes, global warming, energy use and spread of toxic chemical pollutants.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Attended Inorganic Chemistry (NKEB23) and Organic chemistry (NKEB22) (or equivalent)

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
Lectures, seminars, laboration och study visit.

Course contents:
Chemistry of the ozone layer, air pollutants, green house effects and global warming and their environmental consequences. The nature of different toxic organic compounds and heavy metals polluted natural waters and treatment of wastewater. Further, to give an orientation of risk hazards, waste elimination and laws in the environmental area.
