Aim:
The aim of this theme is to give opportunity for reflection upon and increased understanding of communicative aspects of the work of the engineer and the role of technology in working life. Working in small groups using an investigative approach, the students develop their theory skills. The theme also offers the students an opportunity to develop their oral presentation skills.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)

Organisation:
Lectures, seminars, exercises in oral presentation, fieldwork (interviews, observations), at businesses, and group tuition in connection with the fieldwork.

Course contents:
1. In the theme, various aspects of interaction between people and between people and technology are focused, for example: recurring patterns in specific communication situations - the design of technology - the users´ views on and conceptions of the use of technology- the engineer´s view of technology, technology users and his/her own role in the interaction with the surrounding world. This theme can vary somewhat in content for different students, depending on the questions raised in their individual fieldwork. 2. Training in oral presentation for the group.

Attendance requirements: lectures – 80%, seminars - 80%, tutorials – 80%. One of two marks is awarded for the theme: Pass or Fail.
