Aim:
The aim of the course is to give the students knowledge about electronical, optical and magnetical phenomena in solids. The course should also provide knowledge about the importance of the outermost atomic layers for these phenomena as well as about special surface phenomena.
Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Participation in NFYC56 Solid State Physics and NFYC58 Quantum Mechanics and Molecular Physics.
Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
The content of the course is presented in the form of lectures.
Course contents:
Optical properties, superconductivity, dielectrics and ferroelectrics, and magnetic properties. Crystal defects. Atomic and electronic structure of surfaces and interfaces. Adsorption, desorption, surface diffusion, work function. Different surface science techniques are treated.
