Aim:
This course aims to provide an advanced understanding in Pharmacology. The course will give knowledge in the mechanisms of drug action and the relation between drug concentration and effect. Furthermore, the course will focus both on recent research within some field of pharmacology and on modern techniques available to study and elucidated the molecular and cellular basis of how drugs act.
|
|
Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Participation in NVFA06 Pharmacology B level and a minimum of 40 points in the main subject, natural sciences, medical biology, medicine or pharmacy.
Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
Lectures, tutorial groups, seminars, practical and computer-based laborations.

Course contents:
The theoretical part includes drugs that interact with transmembrane proteins (e. g. receptor agonists and antagonists, enzyme inhibitors, ionchannel blockers), intracellular target proteins (e.g. steroid hormones) and with replication / transcription system (e.g. cytotoxic drugs). Drugs that affect the neuron and neurotransmission, muscle cells and inflammatory cells. Principles of gene- and immuno-therapy and pharamcokinetics (drug absorption, distribution and elimination). Current concept of drug/ receptorprotein interaction will also be studied.
Practical and computer based laborations that clarify pharmacodynamic principles
