Aim:
Understanding of mathematical models for random phenomena. Ability to analyse the models and to find models for experimental results , i.e. to apply probability theory in practical situations.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Mathematics from year 1.

Organisation:
The course is organised in lectures, lessons and group work.

Course contents:
Sample space, events and probability. Conditional probability and independence. Random variables, probability distributions. Functions of a random variable. Expectation, variance, covariance, correlation. Binomial, Poisson, exponential, normal distributions. Simulation. The central limit theorem. Random vectors. The Poisson process.
