Aim:
To give knowledge about the most important physical processes in earth crust, the oceans and the atmosphere.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Basic courses in physics studied, 20 points (NFYA31, NFYA32 and NFYA 33).

The teaching consists of lecturing and tutorials in connection with experimental work.

The construction of the earth crust. Plate tectonics. Movements of the plates. Earthquakes. Vulcanos. Magnetic fields. Northern lights. The physical properties of the ocean. Ocean streams. The composition and dynamics of the stratum of air. Clouds and precipitation of atmosphere. Greenhouse effect. The energy balance for the earth.
