Course contents:
Basic surface and colloid chemistry:
Classification of colloidal systems and their properties (kinetic and optical). Experimental techniques such as osmotic pressure and light scattering. Properties of surface active agents. Studies of boundaries between solid, liquid and gas phases. Studies of adsorption and surface films. Charged surfaces and the electrical double layer. Colloidal stability and emulsions.
Technical Applications:
Applications of surface and colloid chemistry in,e.g. the food- and pharmaceutical industry, surface treatment, the paint industry, the paper industry, production of soaps and detergents and waste water treatment.
