Aim:
After the course the student should:
- be able to understand and analyze and discuss important concepts of organization theory related to organization culture, organization structure, and organization processes, particular regarding industrial organizations
- be able to individually and independently perform literature studies on a chosen topic and explain, analyze and comment on this topic orally as well as in a written report
- be able to perform and report on studies of organizations in which consequences of organizational choices are analyzed, discussed and related to concepts of organization theory
- be able to understand, analyse and discuss specific characteristics of Swedish business, Sweden's industrial traditions and structure, and Swedish Management

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Three years university studies with an engineering major.

Organisation:
The teaching is organized in lectures and seminars. A series of lectures presents the theoretical foundations and approaches. The theory is further developed in seminars. The seminars are based on the students own active participation in presentations and discussions, regarding theory or different case studies.

Course contents:
ORGANIZATION THEORY: The development of organization theory, division of labor, administrative theory, bureaucratic theory, Scientific Management, the Human Relations movement, decision theory, contingency theory. ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE: Dimensions of structure, size, age, and technology. ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE: Characteristics of organizational culture, group dynamics and conflict handling. ORGANIZATIONAL PROCESSES. Organizational change, leadership, strategic processes. SWEDISH INDUSTRY.
