Aim:
The purpose of this course is provide understanding and methods �?" from the perspective of the acquiring and utilizing business �?" for the purchase, implementation and utilization of ERPs. The course also provides basic knowledge on the composition of ERPs. The focus of the practical work will be on customizing and utilizing ERPs.

Organisation:
The course contains opening lectures and seminars together with tuition of project work carried out in work groups. Students are expected to carry out an empirical study on one of the companies that are customers to either Intentia or IFS. The course is predicated on a very active participation from students.

Course contents:
Acquiring ERP systems instead of developing computer systems especially for the business has become common during recent years. ERP systems represent a substantial part of business information processing. Some suppliers are Swedish, and two large companies (IFS and Intentia) that have their bases in Linköping, participate in this course together with some of their customers. Different kinds of suppliers, different system solutions, and the strategic market perspective will be presented in the course. The focus of the course is not on technical aspects of business systems, but on the process of its integration with the utilizing business and actors within it.
1. Selection and evaluation of ERPs
There are a lot of ERP systems on the market offering the customer different solutions to information provision in the business. The ERP selected may have great impact on the business for a long period. Methods for selection and review will be emphasized.
2. Implementation of ERPs
Implementation of an ERP may last from a couple of weeks to several years. In this part of the course the emphasis is on understanding the dynamics of change of ERP in the utilizing business. Also a supplier perspective will be presented i e assessment of various customer needs and to better understanding of and adaptation of ERP to the customer business processes (methods for enterprise analysis, process analysis, mapping). Also methods for implementation of ERPs are provided.
3. Utilization of ERP
The utilization of an ERP after the basic investment is made, continues for several years. Based on basic knowledge of ERP architecture and utilization areas (in cooperation with the course TPPE 77), the influence between the business, its users and the ERP is discussed. Several cases will be analyzed and discussed.
