Aim:
The goal is that the student shall come in close contact with research work and participate in an ongoing research or development project. The student be responsible for a project that constitutes a part of a larger research project. This gives the opportunity to acquire a deeper understanding and knowledge within a chosen area of manufacturing/manufacturing systems. The goals of knowledge in the course are:
  • knowledge about research methodology in general and for the selected research area.
  • knowledge about how to work in a group.
  • knowledge about how to search for information in the library databases.
  • detailed knowledge about the research in the selected research area.
The goals of skills for the course are:
  • to be able to write a technical report/paper.
  • to be able to plan, manage and conduct a technical project.
  • to be able to search for information in the library databases.

Organisation:
The student shall choose one of the different projects that are offered. The student will then particpate in an ongoing research project under supervision of and in collaboration with a researcher or senior research student. The education and teaching will mainly be in the form of literature seminars. The supervisor is responsible for these seminars. The students can work in groups of two to six persons. The nature of the research is depending on the project and research task. It can be very practical and experimental as well as more theoretical.

Course contents:
The course starts with an introduction to research project management and to research methodology and methods. Also, a seminar of how to search library databases for information will be given. This is succeeded by studies of subjects and areas that are specific to the chosen research project. These studies are adapted to the interests and requirements of the specific students.
