Aim:
The aim of the course is to give students the necessary background for design and statistical analysis of industrial experiments. The emphasis is on application of statistical theory to data, model selection, how to interpret the results and draw conclusions.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
A first course in probability and a first course in statistics.

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
Lectures, seminars, and obligatory laboratories.

Course contents:
Probability models and random variables. Simulation of random data. Point estimation, maximum likelihood method, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, the power of a test. Testing for goodness of fit. Multiple linear regression, residual analysis, model building, transformation of data. Introduction to design and analysis of factorial experiments. Data analysis using MINITAB.
