Aim:
The course aims to give basic knowledge of wave motion and propagation with applications in optics and acoustics
|

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
NMAA13 Mathematical analysis I and parts of NMAB13 Mathematical analysis II or equivalent courses.

Organisation:
The content of the course is presented at lectures. Selected problems will be presented during lessons. Laborations will illustrate some of the phenomena that are discussed at the lectures. The laborations are introduced at special lectures.

Course contents:
General wave motion and wave propagation. The wave equation and its solutions. Mechanical waves, acoustics. Electromagnetic waves. Superposition, phase and group velocity. The propagation of light, reflection and refraction. Geometrical optics. Polarization. Interference and diffraction
