Aim:
The course aim is to give a foundation in simple vector- and matrix calculus. After completion of the course, the student should be able to,
  • make simple vector- and matrix calcuations.
  • solve simple linear systems of equations.
  • use and interpret scalar product with vectors in two and three dimensions.
  • determine equations for lines and planes and use these equations to solve problems.


Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Part 1 in Mathematics for Foundation Year

Organisation:
The course is given in the form of lectures, where some of the course content is discussed,and tutorials.

Course contents:
Linear systems of equations. Matrix calculus. Vector algebra and vector geometry in two and three dimensions. Vectors and coordinates. ON-base. Scalar procuct. Equations for lines and planes. Intersections between lines and between lines and planes. Calsulation of distances.
