Aim:
Kunskap och förståelse The student will increase his/her knowledge and understanding of production and usages of plants in human every-day life, physiological foundations for plant growth, and biostatistics. Färdighet och förmåga The student is expected to develop proficienies in finding, evaluating and compiling primary research literature on specific topics, as well as interpreting and conducting biostatistics. Värderingsförmåga och förhållningssätt The student is expected to be able to critically evaluate standpoints on controversial issues where science can contribute to a solution. The student is also expected to appreciate what constitutes trustworhtiness in science in general.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Enrolment in the MSc programme in Applied Biology, 50 credit points including 10 p in botany (NBIB18 & NBIB19) and 6 p Floristics & Faunistics (NBIB22), or equivalent. To be admitted to courses in English, documented knowledge of English equivalent to "Engelska B" is required, i.e. TOEFL score 550/213.

Organisation:
Textbook and primary research literature, supplemented by lectures. Students will conduct projects in groups that will be followed up by seminars. Excursions.

Course contents:
Plants used by man (food, fodder, fibre, etc), their domestication and their physiology and growth requirements. Biostatistics.
