Aim:
The main aim with the course is that the student will acquire professional experiences from an organisation working with ecological applications and get hands-on experiences from working in the organisation. Another aim is that the professional placement should develop the studentâ?Ts ability to take responsibility give experiences from organisations outside the university.
After the course the student should:
- Have experiences from an organisation working with ecological applications
- Be able to describe and reflect upon the organisation on the workplace placement
- Be able to describe how cases are handled in the organisation, which steering documents that exists and understand how the economy affect the organisations operations
- Get an insight in the demands that a biologist are faced with in his/hers professional role
- Be able to apply ecological knowledge in workplace cases
- Be able to plan, prioritise and independently evaluate and seek information that are needed to solve workplace cases
- Be able to communicate scientific results according to a professional role both orally and in written text

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
120 hp courses of which 90 hp are biology

Organisation:
The course operates as a professional placement in an external organisation that handles environmental questions. The student suggest and contact the external organisation themself. At the workplace, there should exist a superviser with responsability for the work tasks. The student writes a log book with a time-sheet for different work tasks at the placement. Beside following different work tasks the student do a smaller project that has been developed in a collaboration between the workplace and the university that the student plan, do and present at the workplace and at the university. The project may be field or laboratory based or an investigation. The student presents the experiences from the professional placement for other course students at a seminar.

Course contents:
Professional placement at an external organisation that handles environmental questions. The work tasks should be relevant for the master program. A smaller project is done that has been developed in a collaboration between the workplace and the university that the student plan, do and present at the workplace and at the university. The student should be based at the workplace but parts of the project may be done at the university. The project should be relevant and handle ecological questions. The experiences of the workplace placement are presented orally and in written text.
