Aim:
The course is intended to teach the students how to use different models to analyse results from factorial experiments. Design of experiments, selection of models, and ability to interpret the results and to draw conclusions are important.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
A first course in probability and a first course in statistics, for instance TAMS07 and TAMS08.

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
Teaching consists of lectures, lessons and obligatory computer exercises.

Course contents:
Single-factor (including random effects model), two-factor and multifactor experiments in theory and practice. Randomized blocks, Latin squares and related designs. Complete 2^k factorial designs and fractional factorial designs. Response surface methods. Analysis of variance. Multiple comparisons. Guidelines for designing experiments. Transformation of data.
