TPMM20 Manufacturing Planning and Control, 4,5 ECTS credits.
/Produktionsplanering- och styrning/

For:   IMM

OBS!

The course has been withdrawn. It will be replaced by TPMM05.

Prel. scheduled hours: 34
Rec. self-study hours: 86

  Area of Education: Technology

Subject area: Industrial Engineering and Management, Industrial Economics

  Advancement level (G1, G2, A): A

Aim:
The objective of the course is to provide deeper knowledge in manufacturing management. Special attention is paid to the holistic view of manufacturing, the understanding of different planning systems and their applications and the use of quantitative techniques. After taking this course, the student should be able to formulate, analyse and solve manufacturing planning and control problems at three levels: strategic, tactical and operational one. The student will be able to treat aspects both in a theoretical (by considering aspects in general , by reflexion on the production, and by understanding different planning methods and their consequences of implementation within manufacturing) and in a practical way (by performing the associated planning calculations and implementation's analysis within manufacturing).

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Introductory courses in Statistics, Operations Research (linear and non-linear optimisation), and Production and Operations Management.

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:

The teaching is organized in lectures and seminars. The lectures cover theory, models and approaches. The seminars are used for problem solving and case discussions and the laboratories are based on computer applications emphasising the dynamic aspects of the course content.

Course contents:
Introduction, production planning, resource planning, master production scheduling, final assembly scheduling, two-level master schedules, capacity theory, rough-cut capacity planning, material requirements planning (MRP), capacity requirements planning (CRP), manufacturing resource planning (MRP II), production activity control, scheduling, bottleneck scheduling, theory of constraints (OPT), Just-in-time/Kanban, hybrid systems, computer based MPCS, integrated MPC-systems.
