TFKE29 Project - Biomolecular Engineering, 7,5 ECTS credits.
/Projekt i biomolekylär teknik/

For:   KeBi   Kem

Prel. scheduled hours: 60
Rec. self-study hours: 140

  Area of Education: Science

Subject area: Chemistry

  Advancement level (A-D): D

Aim:
After this course, the student should have obtained experience in planning and performing an analysis of a biomolecular problem by means of a self-made choice of biomolecular techniques available at the department.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
NKEC52 or TFKE12 Biochemistry 2, NKED74 or TFKE21 Protein Cehmistry and TFKE18 Biological Measurements

Note: Admission requirements for non-programme students usually also include admission requirements for the programme and threshhold requirements for progression within the programme, or corresponding.

Organisation:
Teaching is organised in lectures, lessons and laboratory tasks.

Course contents:
The lecture course gives a survey on how biomolecular techniques can be applied in concert to solve biotechnical problems, and serves as a start-up for the project part of the course. Within the projects, the students are encouraged to freely choose their methodological approach for studying a specific biomolecular problem, for example CD, fluorescence, MALDI, UV, stopped-flow, NMR, crystallography, modelling, analytical ultracentrifugation, ITC, or immunofluorescens. The students will work in pairs, and will have access to research equipment. The students will work independently adviced by research scientists with these projects, which will be concluded by a written report and an oral presentation.

Course literature:
Excerpts from reference litterature, scientific reviews and articles, and project descriptions.

Examination:
Written examination
Laboratory work
