Aim:
This is the final course of the MSc program. Students will develop their skills in summarising, presenting and discussing research, and to discuss complex biological issues involving sociology and politics. Focus will be on: (i) Communicating research results; (ii) Critiquing research; (ii) Philosophy of science: epistemology & ontology; (iii) Ethics in science & research; (iv) Biological research: politics and the public, (v) Applying biology in the society: laws, conventions and treaties.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)
Enrolment in the MSc programme in Applied Biology.
NBXD40 Final Thesis.

The course consists of lectures, seminars, workshops.

Course contents:
- Lectures and discussions about oral presentation techniques, about how to review a written scientific text and how to provide efficient critique
- Presentation and critique of the research results obtained in the preceding 40 p course
- Students will also apply the expertise gained by critiquing research proposals and assisting students in planning their 40 p course.
- Lectures and seminars on the philosophy of science & ethics
- Seminars and workshops in written communication of biological research results
- Lectures and seminars on relevant laws, conventions and treaties.
