Aim:
The course intends to provide basic knowledge of computer science. In particular knowledge of programming languanges, and experience with the operating system UNIX. Further the course gives knowledge about solving mathematical problems on a computer; in particular using MATLAB. After completing the course the student should be able to
- use the operating system UNIX, the text editor EMACS, and have a basic understanding of the commandline interpreter and the purpose of a compiler.
- describe, and apply, common programming language constructs such as conditional- and repetition statements, and functions.
- design and implement mathematical algorithms, carry out computational tasks, and visualize data, using MATLAB.
- use the typesetting system LaTeX for writing mathematical text, including references, and using graphics.
- perform a project assignment; involving numerical solution of a mathematical problem and presentation of the solution method and results.
