Aim:
The course aims at describing pressures and flows in the circulatory, respiratory, digestive and endocrine systems. Techniques used for measuring such flows and pressures.

Prerequisites: (valid for students admitted to programmes within which the course is offered)

Organisation:
The course comprises lectures and demonstrations (50h) and laboratory work (16h).

Course contents:
Circulation: Hemodynamics, measurements and clinical applications, fluid mechanics in the circulatory system, models of the circulatory system. Respiration: respiration physiology, respiratory disease and measurements. Digestion: gastric disease, esophagus physiology and diagnosis. Measurement techniques. Endocrines: Models and measurements.

Monitoring of Respiration and Circulation by J.A. Blom (CRC Press, 2004)
Chapters from the Biomedical Engineering handbook (2000) which will be handed out on the lectures.
Both book can be accessed via the internet for LiU students.
